What awaits you - South

What awaits you - and what not

Southern Afrika

The good infrastructure in southern Africa makes travelling much easier.
Good roads and tracks. A rich selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Excellent meat – also game such as Kudu, springbok and ostrich.

We don't have a "Local Payment". Most of our excursions and meals are included in our price, even very expensive visits of National Parks. Normally we serve three meals a day.

Good camping grounds and guest farms with a high standard, All in all, the southern Africa offer a relaxing holiday in a gorgeous landscape. The animal kingdom with its National Parks – from the more “tame” Etosha Park (Namibia) to the wild Moremi Park (Botswana) shows us an Africa from its most beautiful side!

We travel with special 4x4 trucks. Due to the 4x4 technology and the compact dimensions of our vehicle we can also travel on smaller tracks and on mountainous regions which are inaccessible to conventional vehicles - and therefore remain closed to many tourists

Don’t expect the generous space and luxury of a coach! That also applies to your luggage. Please travel light (see our packing – list)!

Accommodation

All our trips are camping trips. Most of our camping grounds and guest farms have excellent sanitary facilities with hot showers and a swimming pool. In many cases you can rent a room.

Depending on your trip, we will camp sometimes on camping grounds with very simple facilities. But then they are compensating with a stunning landscape.

In some National Parks (like the Moremi Park / Botswana we do bush camping.
During some trips we also have a few bush camps.

Camping life

We travel as a team and therefore we need your co-operation. Particularly in the daily routine your help is asked, like pitching and striking the camp and doing the dishes. The tour guide does the cooking. If you like to cook, feel free!

In Africa more the sun than the clock decides our daily routine. We get up shortly after sunrise and set off after breakfast. This allows us to make the most of the cooler mornings, gives more time for sightseeing and permits us to camp earlier in the afternoon.

Whenever we have the possibility we light a fire in the evening.

Single travellers get a 2 person tent to themselves. If two people book a trip together we will provide you with a 3 person tent. All tents have a mosquito net, and they are waterproof.

As an exceptional luxury we offer the option of a refreshing daily shower- wow! We have 500 litres of fresh water at our disposal and an electric shower.

We provide you with air mattresses or mattresses.

Food

Thanks to the great variety of fruits, vegetables and meat, we will provide ourselves mostly with fresh food. At least 3 times a week we can provide with fresh food and drinks.
Depending of our stock we serve:
Breakfast: coffee and tea, bread, butter, margarine, sausage, cheese, muesli and cornflakes, sometimes scrambled eggs and yoghurt
For lunch we have sandwiches with sausage, cheese or fish. And vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots or avocados.
For dinner we serve a warm meal or have a barbecue. Always you get vegetables and/or salads.

Do we stay we on a camping ground with a restaurant, normally we don’t cook. Even at the starting point and the ending point we don't cook. There you can find always cheap African restaurants or restaurants with international cooking.

If we are visiting a town during lunchtime, you have to eat in a restaurant or a take – away (for more information, please see our tour description)

Streets and tracks

In southern Africa we have a good road network. Even most of the gravel roads are in a good condition.
Occasionally we will travel on small paths or bad tracks.

Our truck

For our journeys we use a4x4 truck, which is well suited for cross-country work.

  • 4x4 truck with 170 hp
  • Fuel capacity 460 litres /150 galleons
  • Double cabin with 6 seats
  • 7 comfortable bus seats in the rear
  • Enclosed bodywork with large side shutters (left and right), which are open while travelling. Plastic windows are used when weather conditions are unfavourable.
